Gary Demele

GaryMr. Demele has been Vice President at Busch Architects, Inc. since 2008. He is a licensed Architect in Minnesota, Massachusetts, California and Colorado and is NCARB certified. He received his degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974 and a Lifetime California Community College Teaching Credential in 1978. He practiced architecture in California, Adelaide, Australia and Boston before relocating to Minnesota in 1994. From 1986 to 1994 he was an adjunct faculty member at the Boston Architectural College teaching a sustainable design studio, building technology and serving as a thesis advisor.

His 33 years of project experience has focused on educational and religious building types. He has worked with numerous K-12 school districts, including Saint Paul Public Schools and Avalon Charter School. University work includes University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; University of California, Berkeley and University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Church work includes River of Life Church in Elk River, Minnesota; Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church and School in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Saint Clares Monastery in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Elmo, Minnesota and Mount Carmel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. Demele also has experience working with government and municipal projects for US Army Corp of Engineers and various municipalities within the Twin Cities area.

Award winning projects include Carlson Marketing Group, Minnetonka, Mn (1997 NAIOP Design Award), “North Gate” University of California, Berkeley with Robert Olwell, FAIA (Design Competition winner and 1985 AIA San Francisco Honor Award) and Spafford Residence, Woodside, Ca (1975 Sunset Magazine Design Award). Gary has been a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1978 serving on numerous State and National Committees and as a long time member of the Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA) and Education committees. For the last 14 years he has also been a Mentor to graduate and undergraduate architecture students at the University of Minnesota. His public service activities include Vice Chair of the Minnesota State Registration Board of AELSLAGID and Region IV Director on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Board of Directors, Washington D.C.

Gary is a world traveler, Zen gardener and skier. He lives in Orono, Minnesota with his wife, Maureen Steele Bellows, Architect.
